El Hierro also called Isla del Meridiano is the smallest of the seven main islands and have a population of just 10,798 people. The island is the most  southern situated island in the Canary Islands.

The capital of this small island is Valverde, also known as "the city in the clouds",  as it is situated 600 metres above sea level - originally so it would not be visible from the sea to passing pirate ships.

Despite being the smallest of the Islands, El Hierro has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. With the inauguration of the Gorona del Viento hydroelectric plant El Hierro has becomes the first island to be completely self sufficient using only renewable energy.

It's a great place for divers. Despite its size, you can explore 46 dive sites that make El Hierro island a marine paradise full of life. It's one of the world's dream diving sites with more than ten top-class spots - all full of volcanic features and marine life.

You don't need to feel cut off from family and friends, while spending some weeks under the sun, as El Hierro offers free wifi all over the island.

La Gomera is the second smallest of the seven main Canary Islands.
This beautiful little island was awarded World Biosphere Reserve status in 2011, thanks to the pristine nature of its marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

What is Nador like

Nador is situated in the north east Rif region of Morocco on the Sebkha Bou Areq salt lagoon on the Mediterranean Sea coast. Nador is is the capital of the Nador Province in the Oriental Region of northern Morocco.

The city was founded by the Berber Civilisation and then ruled by the Phoenicians, the Romans and the Arabs. The city is a popular meeting place for expatriate Moroccans who go to the city to meet their relatives and therefore are an important source of income for the city. Nador does not offer lots of tourist sights, but it is a popular destination for people who wish to take in its traditional Riffian or Berber atmosphere and experience the authentic culture of Northern Africa.

Nador Province has more than 600,000 inhabitants, predominantly of Riff-Berber ethnicity and the city of Nador has approximately 162,000 inhabitants (2018).

Cape of The Three Fourches is one of the most gorgeous sites in Nador. You can enjoy breathtaking sea views from the cliffs and from the beautiful beach, you have access to the crystal clear water, where many people come to dive.
The cape is a large mountainous mass of raised land of stretching into the Mediterranean Sea. A lighthouse is located in the North end of the cape.

The Spanish exclave of Melilla is on the eastern side of the peninsula - between The cape and Nador.
Melilla is a Spanish autonomous city located on the north coast of Africa, sharing a border with Morocco.

Melilla la Vieja is the name of a large fortress which stands immediately to the north of the port in Melilla, one of Spain's Plazas de soberanía on the north African coast

The Carthusian Monastery

The Carthusian Monastery houses among others the Chopin and George Sand Museum, located in Cell 2.

Furthermore the monastery includes a church in neoclassic style, an old  pharmacy, with a collection of 135 ceramic Catalan jars from the seventeenth and eighteenth century, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Palace of King Sancho and Valldemossa's Municipal Museum.

Sure, you can get international food in Spain - but do yourself a favour and taste the Spanish food while visiting. It's part of your holiday experience and chances are;  you'll love it!

Keep an eye out for crowded local bars and cafés; if the place is packed with Spanish people, it usually means the food is good.

Bocaddillos

Whether you are staying in a hotel or in a holiday home, leave the buffet breakfast or the kitchen in your holiday home alone, one of your mornings, and take a stroll out in the neighbourhood to see where the Spanish have their morning coffee and breakfast.
There are many different types of coffee in Spain. If you want black coffee order Café Solo - but remember to add "Grande" (Café Solo Grande) otherwise you will get a very tiny strong black coffee. If you want coffee with warm milk, order Café con Leche. Coffee is normally served in a glass.
A typical Spanish breakfast is a bocaddillo (baguette) which you can get fresh or toasted with olive oil and tomatoes. The tomatoes are not like the ones you get in your local supermarket at home, these tomatoes are most likely freshly picked and they actually taste of tomatoes.
How to order coffee in Spain

Café Solo – half a glass of single espresso
Café Solo Grande – full glass of single espresso
Café Doble – double espresso
Café con Leche  –  half coffee /  half milk
Café Cortado – espresso with a little bit of milk
Carajillo – coffee  with a twist of brandy or whiskey

Tapas

A brilliant thing about the Spanish cafés is that they serve tapas. This basically means you can get a varied, filling, tasty lunch for very little money - depending on where you go.
In Granada you still get free tapas with every drink you buy. Most other places you pay from 0.50 EUR to 2.50 EUR per tapas.
The selection of tapas vary from bar to bar and from season to season, however they are all served with fresh bread, which purpose is to dip into the sauce to soak it up.

Menu del Dia or the meu of the day is a very economical way of eating while in Spain. You normally get a starter, a main meal and a dessert for one budget price.

Nothing wrong with that! I have done it myself, and I have even enjoyed it. However if you are exploring Spain by car you can easily fit a ferry to Mallorca into your travel plans. And if you are wondering how to get to Mallorca by ferry – I am just about to tell you.

From mainland Spain you can reach Mallorca in between 5 to 7 hours from Barcelona, Denia or Valencia.

From Barcelona you can sail to Alcudia on the North side of Mallorca or to Palma on the west side, while the routes from Denia and Valencia only sail to Palma.

I don’t think Barcelona in the north east of Spain needs to be placed further on the map, but if you are not that familiar with Spanish geography you might want to know that Denia is situated on Costa Blanca.

A beautiful drive along the coast road N 332 will get you there and so will the highway AP7. Valencia – the third largest city in Spain is approximately 100km further north along the Coast from Denia.

You can book a return ticket, but if you plan to visit one of the other Balearic Islands – may I suggest you book a one-way ticket on the ferry to Mallorca. This gives you the option of sailing back to mainland Spain from Menorca or Ibiza.

You can also reduce the driving quiet a bit if you sail from Denia or Valencia to Mallorca on a single ticket and book your ferry back from Mallorca to Barcelona. – Or the other way around. Doing Mallorca by ferry is a brilliant opportunity to experience different areas of Spain.

Two Ferry Companies covers all the traffic from mainland Spain to Mallorca: Balearia- and Trasmediterranea Ferries. Together the two companies conduct more than 50 crossings weekly.

Taking a ferry to Mallorca from mainland Spain is part of your holiday. Between 5 and 7 hours on the blue Mediterranean Sea, depending on which route you choose, is not a hassle – it is a pleasure.

Located in the Mediterranean Sea, close to Mallorca, you will find the island of Menorca with a population of approximately 82.000. Menorca is part of the Balearic Islands and the province of Catalonia.
