OVERVIEW OF TENERIFE
Tenerife is the largest of the seven inhabited Canarie Islands and has close to one million permanent residents. However the island "grows" with up to four million visitors a year!
When you arrive by ferry from Southern Spain or from Lanzarote or Gran Canary, you arrive in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which has been the capital in Tenerife since 1833 and shares its function as the capital of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is located in the north-east of the Island and is a wonderful bright and colourful city. If you happen to visit while the Carnival takes place, you are in for an amazing experience; this is the second biggest carnival in the world, next after Rio de Janairo in Brazil.
THE TOP RATED LOCATIONS IN TENERIFE
Tenerife North
The north coast of Tenerife is said to be the most fertile area in all of Spain. It is a total wilderness, intersected by super roads, so you can enjoy the area driving, cycling and walking with equal pleasure. And in between scenic stretches, you will find adorable small villages with no major attractions other than a cozy church, a sleepy square, a few tapas restaurants and lots of Canarian tranquility.
The coastal road is one of the most beautiful and varied, soon you are in a green tunnel, soon on the inside of the gorge, and soon you will feel a gasp in the belly on a mountain ridge with sea views.

Playa de las Américas
Mt. Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain's tallest peak. The island has many beaches (with sands from yellow to black) and resort areas, including Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas.
It is worthwhile planning a vacation in a holiday home on Tenerife as it can include in a potpourri of experiences. If you want to be at the heart of Tenerife’s urban life, rent one of the holiday apartments in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. However, the best time to book holiday homes in this bustling capital is during the carnival. The carnival held here is the second of its kind after Rio.
If you are intrigued by old world charm, pick from the holiday rentals in Puerto de la Cruz. It is an old town in the lap of the beautiful Orotava Valley. For more action consider staying in the holiday rentals of Playa de Las Américas, Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos. This southern part of Tenerife is fringed with sandy beaches and has a wider scope for water activities along with a vibrant nightlife.
“Puerto de la Cruz is a nice place to holiday. The Punta Brava area where the loft is located (right opposite Loro Parque) is pleasant and there are a few local shops cafes and bars and a Lidl supermarket just up the hill nearby.
In the main town there are numerous places to eat of varying standards and it seems the town caters for most needs. Our favourite restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz was Tasca Ihuey - excellent food and service.
The beaches when we visited were swept by large Atlantic waves and were not ideal for swimming. There were lifeguards on duty on the town beaches and supervised bathing was possible but not suitable for weak swimmers/children as the waves were too big. The park areas behind the town beaches were very well kept and pleasant.”
This is how holiday rental owners described Puerto de la CruzSituated on the northern coast of the island, at the feet of El Teide, Puerto de la Cruz offers its visitors a cosmopolitan town which, after a century of tourism experience, today retains all the flavour of a conurbation open to the sea and to every cultural background. Declared of Tourist Interest in 1955, Puerto de la Cruz brings together in attractive harmony both the traditional architecture of the island and the modernity of first-class hotels.
It is also the home to the extensive and exquisite design of leisure parks and the charming colour of the most typical and picturesque corners of the small fishing village that it once was.
The streets of Puerto de la Cruz are constantly bustling with activity, with a leisurely atmosphere that beckons relaxation and rest; suggests visits and contemplation of its most traditional buildings; and invites the onlookers´ involvement in the festivities and local religious celebrations...
To enjoy the sea, this northern municipality has much to offer: coves of volcanic sand, the saltwater swimming pool complexes of Lago Martiánez, Playa Jardín and Punta Brava. Costa Martiánez, the work of the genius César Manrique, is a place where design and nature blend to create an area of particular beauty. There is also the botanical gardens, with species of plants from all five continents or Loro Parque, all of which will deserve the visitors´ praise.
