How to get to Nador in Morocco from Southern Spain

A short ferry trip across the Mediterranean Sea or in fact the Alboran Sea, which is the name of the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, brings you to the Moroccan town Nador in North Africa - close to the Algerian border -  in approximately five - six hours.

You can sail from Almeria in Southern Spain and you can choose between 3 ferry operators: Baleria (10 times per week), Trasmediterranea (7 times per week) and Naviera Armas (5 times per week).

The ferry from Motril in Southern Spain to Nador in Morocco is currently serviced by one ferry company, Naviera Armas. The ferry crossing is approximately 5 hours. It is recommended to check the ferry crossings, as sailing durations and frequency may vary from season to season.

What is Nador like

Nador is situated in the north east Rif region of Morocco on the Sebkha Bou Areq salt lagoon on the Mediterranean Sea coast. Nador is is the capital of the Nador Province in the Oriental Region of northern Morocco.

The city was founded by the Berber Civilisation and then ruled by the Phoenicians, the Romans and the Arabs. The city is a popular meeting place for expatriate Moroccans who go to the city to meet their relatives and therefore are an important source of income for the city. Nador does not offer lots of tourist sights, but it is a popular destination for people who wish to take in its traditional Riffian or Berber atmosphere and experience the authentic culture of Northern Africa.

Nador Province has more than 600,000 inhabitants, predominantly of Riff-Berber ethnicity and the city of Nador has approximately 162,000 inhabitants (2018).

Things to do in Nador

Cape of The Three Fourches is one of the most gorgeous sites in Nador. You can enjoy breathtaking sea views from the cliffs and from the beautiful beach, you have access to the crystal clear water, where many people come to dive.
The cape is a large mountainous mass of raised land of stretching into the Mediterranean Sea. A lighthouse is located in the North end of the cape.

The Spanish exclave of Melilla is on the eastern side of the peninsula - between The cape and Nador.
Melilla is a Spanish autonomous city located on the north coast of Africa, sharing a border with Morocco.

Melilla la Vieja is the name of a large fortress which stands immediately to the north of the port in Melilla, one of Spain's Plazas de soberanía on the north African coast
